A box-type substation is a factory prefabricated integrated outdoor complete power transformation and distribution equipment. It integrates high-voltage switches, distribution transformers, low-voltage distribution units, protection & metering devices and reactive power compensation components all inside an enclosed cabinet, replacing traditional civil power distribution rooms. It can be put into operation once the foundation is completed and cables are connected on site.

I. Two Main Types

1. European-style Package Substation (ZBW) It features three independently separated compartments (high-voltage chamber, transformer chamber, low-voltage chamber) with a delta or straight-line layout. It is easy for maintenance, equipped with comprehensive protection functions and available for large capacity. Widely applied in residential communities, industrial parks, photovoltaic power stations and municipal projects.
2. American-style Package Substation (ZGS) High-voltage components share the same oil tank with the transformer. It has a compact structure, small footprint and low cost. However, maintenance is inconvenient and its capacity is relatively low. Suitable for small distribution networks, street lighting and temporary power supply at construction sites.
